Clarence Seidel Obituary

Clarence V. Seidel, 90, of Jerseytown, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Orangeville Nursing and Rehab. He was born February 19, 1921, in Derry Township, Montour County, a son of the late Clarence W. and Myrtle Bardo Seidel. Clarence graduated from Danville High School in 1940. He then joined the United States Army October 6, 1942 and served in the 80th Division 318th Regiment and he was part of the S-2 Intelligence Section. In 1945 in Bratt, France during the Battle of the Bulge Clarence received a purple heart and the bronze star. He was discharged November 1, 1945. After his time in the service Clarence worked for Bond Chemical for thirty years, were he tested water and sold chemicals for commercial boilers. In 1947 started his own painting business. He retired from the Danville State Hospital after thirty years of service. Clarence enjoyed playing baseball and he coached little league and played, managed and in later years umpired for the North Branch Baseball league. He enjoyed gardening and he played guitar for community round and square dances. He has been a member of the Jerseytown Methodist Church for sixty-six years. He was also the manager and janitor of the Jerseytown Community Center for over thirty years. Clarence and his wife Betty enjoyed wintering in Kissimmee, Florida. He is a member of the Millville American Legion Post 564. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife Betty Crossley Seidel who passed away April 2, 2004, two brothers Clay and Alfred Seidel and a sister Iris Perlis. He is survived by three daughters Nancy and her husband Bill Welliver of Jerseytown, Karen and her husband Randy Jones of Berwick, Beth and her husband Wayne Earnest of Unityville, and three sons Dale Seidel and his wife Nina of Washingtonville, Dean Seidel and Gary Seidel and his wife Rebecca all of Jerseytown, eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and two brothers Elery Seidel and his wife Ann of Williamsport and Ervil Seidel of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Bunnell Funeral Home, Inc. 179 E. Main St. Millville with William Van Horn officiating. Burial will be at Elan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
