Daniel W. Ludwig, passed away on May 9, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on July 24, 1950, in Danville, a son of the late George and Marie (Shoemaker) Ludwig. Dan was a kind and generous man whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and steadiness to those around him.
Dan graduated from Millville High School with the class of 1970 and soon after answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. During his military service, he worked on the Nike Missile Base in Germany. He was honorably discharged on June 1, 1979, completing his service with the same sense of responsibility that guided him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Dan built a long and respected career at Kawneer, where he worked as a welder before retiring. He was known as a dependable worker and a true jack of all trades, someone who could fix, build, or help with nearly anything that needed attention. His strong work ethic and practical skills were matched by a humble nature and a willingness to lend a hand whenever someone needed it.
Dan found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time farming, and tending to his garden. He liked watching old westerns and playing rummy cards, and he especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren. He had a special love for his beagle dogs and took great pleasure in being around them. Helping friends came naturally to him, and he was always ready to offer his time, his knowledge, or his support without hesitation.
He celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife, the former Melinda Welliver, and their bond was a lasting example of love, loyalty, and companionship. He is survived by his wife, Melinda; his children, Shannon and his wife Cindy of Millville, and Danielle Ross and her husband James of New Columbia; and his four grandchildren, Ian, Caitlyn, Tommy, and Caleb, who brought him endless happiness. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Theresa Ludwig of Millville and Mary Kase of Millville, niece Elizabeth Auman, as well as his grandfur babies, Axle, Striker, and Cleo.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may send online condolences to bunnellfuneralhome.com. The Bunnell Funeral Home Inc., Millville is handling arrangements.
