Dixie J. Carl, 72, of Bloomsburg, passed away on May 6, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on May 20, 1953, in Berwick, a daughter of the late Zeneldeen and June (Walters) Swartz.
Dixie was a graduate of Millville High School and later continued her education at Penn College, where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree. Her commitment to caring for others guided much of her life and work. She served as a private duty registered nurse, offering compassionate care and support to those in need. Her professional life also included work as a convenience store manager, where her dependable nature and friendly manner were appreciated by many. In every role she held, Dixie brought a steady spirit and a sincere concern for the well-being of others.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Bloomsburg. Dixie was also known for the many simple joys she found in home and family life. She was an excellent cook, and those fortunate enough to share a meal with her knew the comfort and love that came from her kitchen. She also enjoyed crocheting and needle point, creating with her hands in ways that reflected her thoughtful and nurturing nature.
She is survived by her two children, Jennifer Bishop and her husband Stephen of Oil City, PA, and James Carl of Bloomsburg, three grandchildren; Samuel, Wesley, and Savannah Bishop. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Walls and her husband Jim of Danville, Clifton Swartz and his wife Suzanne of Millville, and Stephen Swartz and his wife Terry Jo. Dixie cherished her family deeply, and her love for them was evident in the many ways she supported, encouraged, and cared for them throughout her life.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday May 20, 2026 at 11:00 am at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 706 Central Road, Bloomsburg with her pastor, Pastor John Kolenda officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
