Don E. Bangs, a beloved member of the Orangeville Community, bid farewell to his earthly journey on December 11, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on March 5, 1932, to proud parents E. Guy and Clara (Thomas) Bangs, Don’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and enduring love.
Don graduated from Millville High School in 1950. Following his patriotic calling, he enlisted in the Navy and honorably served on the USS Randolph for four years. On December 5, 1953, Don married the love of his life, Lois Hanburry, marking the beginning of a remarkable union that would have celebrated its 70th anniversary this December.
Don embarked on a successful insurance career with Millville Mutual Insurance Company, eventually founding the Bangs Insurance Agency, where he served until his well-deserved retirement in 1994. His commitment extended beyond his professional life, as demonstrated by his more than 56 years of active membership in Oriental Lodge No. 460. In April 2017, Don received a well-earned 50-year award, commemorating his enduring dedication to the fraternity.
A respected member of the community, Don also contributed to the financial sector as a member of the Board of Directors at CCFNB from 1985 to 2003. His role as Secretary of the Corporation, for over a decade, showcased his commitment to the institution’s success.
Don found joy in outdoor pursuits, notably as an avid fisherman and hunter. Whether casting lines in Canada or exploring the Florida Keys, he cherished these moments with friends. His family affectionately joked that, come hunting season, Don would invariably tag his deer by 7:30 on the first morning. A gentleman farmer, Don delighted in overseeing his barn filled with a variety of livestock.
While Don’s achievements were many, his greatest legacy lies in the values he instilled in his family, extending down to the great-grandchildren. A faithful member of Mill-Green United Methodist Church, Don served on numerous committees, furthering his commitment to his spiritual community.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois, grandson Jason Bangs, two brothers Kenneth and Jay Bangs, and two sisters Ruth Swartz and Janet Bloom. Don is survived by his three children, Pamela of Millville, Keith (Diane) of Orangeville, and Daniel of Naples, FL. His memory lives on through seven grandchildren: Joseph (Jana), Joshua (Amanda), Jared, Johanna (JD), Zachary (Ashley), Danielle, and Rachel. Additionally, he leaves behind nine great-grandchildren: Gianna, Sophia, Natalie, Mason, Brooklyn, Leighton, Carson, Kimber and Liam. As well as sister Sally Rishebarger, and brother Dale.
Don E. Bangs will be remembered for his unwavering love, commitment to family, and contributions to his community—a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday January 20,2024, at 11:00 am at Mill-Green United Methodist Church, 466 Old Greenwood Road, with Pastor Robert Strozyk officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
