On Wednesday December 30, Donna Diane Holdren of Jerseytown was overcome by Covid pneumonia at the age of 78. Donna was the daughter of the late Earl and Lillian Patton Thomas, and one of 10 siblings who grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Millville High School in 1960. After marrying her high school sweetheart Dick Holdren in 1960, the couple resided in Jerseytown for the duration of their 60-year union. Donna worked at Shafer's Village Store for several years and served as a Girl Scout leader before becoming a full-time mom to her three sons. Because she treasured the bonds of family, Donna (known as "Sis" to her siblings) organized picnics, dinners, and cabin retreats which often resulted in the card games she enjoyed. Donna also loved bowling, cooking, participating in church activities, and watching her children and grandchildren at sporting events. Her joyful laugh, her thoughtfulness, and her practical wisdom were a blessing to all who knew her. She was well known for her delicious banana or coconut cakes, holiday slush, and raisin-filled cookies.
Donna will be greatly missed by her husband Dick, and her sons and their wives, Brian and Cathy of Bloomsburg, Roger of Danville, and Chad and Tara of Millville. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren: Angela Matecka, Susan McGarry, Tina Holdren, Teresa Holdren, Tiffany Holdren, Kelly Holdren and Will Holdren. Donna had seven great-grandchildren. Donna is survived by her siblings, Jean, Donald, Marion, Dale, and Richard and was preceded in death by Margaret, LaRue, Deborah, and Joanne.
Graveside services will be held Saturday May 29, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Jerseytown Cemetery with her pastor, Pastor Martin Parr officiating. Family will receive friends at the cemetery from noon until time of service.
