Gorman “Gum” Earnest, 78, of Millville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in Missouri while traveling cross country with a close friend. He was born on January 13, 1947, in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late William M. Earnest Sr and Irene Sarah (Heller) Earnest.
Gum lived a life marked by service, hard work, and generosity. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He carried his pride in military service throughout his life as a respected and devoted member of the American Legion Post 564 and VFW Post 804. Gum was known for his love of hunting and fishing, his woodworking abilities, and his ability to fix just about anything. Most of all, Gum was known for his willingness to help others.
Gum is survived by his three children: Valerie Heimbach and her husband Ryan of Palmerton, Kelly Fox and her husband Mike of Hughesville, and James Earnest and his wife Lori of Orangeville. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Raymond and Kaitlyn Heimbach, Derek Earnest, Courtney Fox, Caleb and Avery Earnest, and his great-grandson Ryder Earnest. He is also survived by his two brothers, Carlos “Ray” Earnest of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Albert “Hap” Earnest and his wife, Lois of Millville.
Gum was preceded in death by his parents as well as five brothers: Wayne, William Jr., Martin, Marland, and Ross Earnest.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Bunnell Funeral Home Inc., 179 E. Main St., Millville, with Pastor Matt Verstraeten officiating. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park with military honors rendered in recognition of his faithful service to our nation. Friends, family, and fellow veterans are invited to attend and honor the life of a man who gave so much and asked for so little.
