Helen Bangs Ritchie 102 formerly of 144 Valley Heights Drive Williamsport PA joined the Church Triumphant on May 26 Valley View Nursing Center. Born in Berwick PA April 2, 1911 daughter of Uriah McHenry Bangs and Anna McMahan. Her husband S. Lee Ritchie of 46 years predeceased her in March 1980 as did her sister Irene Bangs Woolcock in April 2008, and her niece Nanette Woolcock Bower in February 1999. Helen was a 1931 graduate of Bloomsburg State College. Her first year of teaching was a one room school house in Greenwood Valley. She retired from teaching in the Millville School district in 1992 where she taught 3rd grade at Pine Elementary. A member of the Mill Green United Methodist Church Millville PA. Helen taught Sunday school, was active in the W.S.C.S., and was a member of the administrative board of the church. Her other activities included the Millville Civics Club, charter member of the Utopian club and a life time member of the order of the Eastern Star-Chapter 247. Community involvement was always important to her. While living in Williamsport she was a volunteer at Divine Providence Hospital, enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and being with family and friends. Remembering her with love and affection are her daughters Patricia R. Schell and her husband Edwin of Cape Coral Florida, Marleen R (Mimi) Petts and her husband Dick of Williamsport. Her grandchildren E. Ritchie Schell and wife Sarah of Baltimore, Gwen P. Patrella and husband Lorenzo of Williamsport, Nancy P. Wasson and husband Kurt of Lebanon, Sarah E Petts of Dillon Co. Great grandchildren Ethan and Caleb Kies, Colton, Carlie, and Conrad Wasson, and Riar and Rowan Schell. Nephews James and wife Mary Sue Woolcock of Brooksville Florida, Jerry and wife Ginger of Orangeville PA. Nieces Margie and husband Jim Bello of Naperville IL., Cheryl and husband Earl Weidinhammer of Harrisburg. Memorial Service will be Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11:00 am with her Pastor Robert Strozyk at Mill Green United Methodist Church 100 North State Street Millville, PA 17846.
