Helen Jean "HJ" (Bangs) Crawford

Surrounded by her family and lifted by her faith, Helen Jean "HJ" (Bangs) Crawford went to be with God on December 8, 2022.

Born August 22, 1935, the daughter of Beryl and Paul Bangs, she lived her entire life in the Millville area. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Charles Crawford, infant son Robbie, and brother Robert Bangs. She is survived by two half siblings; Janice Miller, Hatboro, PA and Richard Bangs, Tenafly, NJ.

She was an extraordinary mother to her son Steven Crawford (Kristin) of Camp Hill and daughter Jodi Crawford Robbins (Walter) of Mountain Top. She was a loving Nana to Justin, Garrett, Sarah, Joshua and Brady and Grand Nana to Declan.

In addition to her own children, she was most known for her extended family of kids, the thousands of students who passed through Millville High School. There, she served as the Executive Assistant to the Principal for decades. She would often say that mentoring and caring for those young people was her most fulfilling mission. Her work there inspired the Friend of the Quakers Scholarship grants that provided a free college education to MHS graduates for many years.

In retirement, she and her husband were very active with the local food bank. She also served on the board of the Area Agency on Aging.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday January 8, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Mill-Green United Methodist Church (Greenwood), 466 Old Greenwood Rd, Millville, PA 17846 with Pastor Robert Strozyk officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 pm until time of service.
