Herman H. Ikeler

Herman H. Ikeler, 74, of Dutch Hill Rd Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at his home. He was born February 13, 1936 in Hemlock Twp., the son of the late Howard and Grace "Swartz" Ikeler. Herman was born on the family farm and moved to his present address in late 50's. He graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1955. During his early teen years he participated in the FFA and had several award winning pigs and chickens. After graduation Herman became the youngest member of the Bloomsburg School Board, from 1955 until the 60's. He was a former Township Supervisor during the flood of 1972. He was also the former committee chairman for the Democratic Committee. He attended the Buckhorn United Methodist Church, were he served as a Lay Reader. He has been a member of the Lighstreet Grange for 50 plus years. Herman also helped coordinate many of the Vesper Services at the Bloomsburg Fair for the past nineteen years. Herman enjoyed farming and continued to help his close friends Kirk and Marian Lehman and family for many years on his family's old homestead. Herman was also close to Joe and Clara Gross and family. He enjoyed making apple cider and apple butter. He also had a wonderful Christmas light display that was well known throughout the area for over twenty years. Memorial services will be Wednesday at 7:30 at Industrial Building at the Bloomsburg Fair Grounds with Rev. Ralph Hartenbauch, Rev. Darwin Goshorn, Rev. Allen Acor and Rev. Thomas Fetterolf officiating. Friends will be received from 6:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
