Joel Johnson Obituary

Joel K. Johnson, 78, of Chestnut St. Reading, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his cabin in Mildred. He was born November 18, 1931, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Joseph and Margerite "Kitzmiller" Johnson. He attended Bloomsburg Schools. Then he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Joel's early life was spent in the Bloomsburg area and he has resided in the Reading area for the past 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and cooking. He also enjoyed spending time with young children and elderly people. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Marie Summerson and two brothers Gordon and David Wayne Johnson, two sisters Martha Johnson and Grace Deeter. He is survived by a son Joseph Johnson of Allentown, two daughters Velma and her husband Nelson J. Simpson of Adamstown, and Edna and her husband Scott Miller of Reading and four grandchildren Daniel and Joshua Melot, Christina Conner and Derek Simpson and two great granddaughters Reilly Simpson and Ceann Conner and a brother John Q. Johnson of Reading. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 am at Bunnell Funeral Home, Inc. 179 E. Main St. Millville with Rev. Allen Acor officiating. Burial will be at Millville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Friends may send online condolences at bunnellfuneralhome.com.
