Joseph J. Romovage, 91, of Jerseytown passed away peacefully on October 25, 2022 at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Home, Danville. He would have reached age 92 on December 26, 2022.
He was born December 26, 1930, in Shenandoah, the son of Joseph and Frances (Radziak) Romovage (Romowicz). He was raised and lived in Shenandoah then moved to W. 5th St., Bloomsburg, and finally moved to Jerseytown to be near his family.
He was educated at St. Casimir’s Parochial School and graduated in 1949 from Shenandoah High School.
He is the last member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by a sister Dolores (Carl) Neyhard, brother John (Yash) Romovage, and companion Geraldine Fabule. He leaves behind his feline card playing buddy Midnight.
As a teenage he worked at various Shenandoah bakeries and became an accomplished baker retiring from Sawka’s Bakery. We will always remember his breads, donuts, and cakes. Uncle Joe was a member of St. Casimir’s, Shenandoah, attended St. Columbia, Bloomsburg, and Jerseytown United Methodist Church.
Uncle Joe’s life was filled with memories of “The Joint”, Romig’s Pool Shooting friends, Jerseytown Tavern Blue Grass, Vegas Vacations, family picnics and childhood cousins. He will be lovingly remembered by nephews; John (Jane) Neyhard of Bloomsburg, Carl (Jeanie) Neyhard of Danville, nieces; Patricia (Gerald) Zeisloft of Jerseytown, Mary (Fransico) Reyes of New Jersey, Barbara Tyson of North Carolina, 9 greats and 13 great-great nieces and nephews.
