Katharina Kegler, 88, of 199 Spyglass Hill Drive in Bloomsburg, died on August 19, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Lydia Kegler and her son-in-law, Luke Springman. She was born on February 17, 1922 in the German-speaking village of Sackelhausen, Banat, Romania to Jakob Pappert and Ann Lauer Pappert. After immigrating to the United States in 1951 from Austria, she and her husband operated a flourishing custom tailoring business in St. Louis, MO for more than 40 years. In addition to being an accomplished seamstress, she delighted in baking European specialties for family and friends. She possessed a tremendous joy for life and a gift for compassion. Before coming to Bloomsburg to live with her daughter, she was a good friend to many; everyone who knew her adored her. The rich oral history of her life in the Banat and Austria profoundly enriched the life of her daughter. Above all, she fiercely loved her husband of 71 years, Michael, her cherished daughter, Lydia and her beloved pets. Mrs. Kegler was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; an infant son; her brothers, Jakob and Johann Pappert and very recently, her cousin, Heinrich Lauer of Germany. She is survived by her daughter, Lydia Katharina Kegler and son-in-law, Luke Springman; and a nephew, John Pappert and his wife, Ann. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at New Rosemont Cemetery, Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Danville SPCA, 2801 Bloom Rd., Danville, Pa 17821 or to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kanab, UT 84741, www.bestfriends.org.
