LaRue Franklin English, 89 passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Grandview Nursing and Rehab where he had been a resident for 5 years. LaRue was the 12th of 13 children of the late Harry and Mary (Richards) English. He was born August 14, 1931 in Buckhorn, PA, and attended the one room school house until 8th grade. He served in the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean War earning the Bronze Star. Upon returning home, he married his wife, Dorothy Smith English. With her, they had 59 wonderful years of marriage.
LaRue had many jobs over his 89 years on this earth. He did everything with passion and determination. A head strong man who was self employed for many years. He loved mowing grass and raking leaves and his love for the outdoors made him a well known deer processor, famous for his deer bologna. You would always get a sample of homemade wine when picking up your deer meat. His last job was keeping the staff at Grandview on their toes. He was everyone's "Pop" making him one of their favorites no matter how much trouble he got in.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings, his wife and unborn grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his children; Andrew (Sandy) English, Benton, PA, Janet (Kevin) Niemiec, Mooreburg, PA, Peter English, Bloomsburg, PA and Betsy (Fred) Shotwell, Berwick, PA. LaRue has 5 grandchildren, 2 great grand children and 1 great-great grandchild.
He will be laid to rest with his wife at McHenry Hill Cemetery, Bowman Mill Road, Orangeville. A military graveside service will be Tuesday, December 22,2020 at 10:00 am with Pastor Mike Spagnuolo offciating. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you buy a meal for a veteran and spend time with your family.
