Larry Lee Grocott, 81, of Millville, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his residence. He was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a son of the late Robert and Amanda (Buchheim) Grocott.
He was raised in Humboldt, South Dakota, and attended Humboldt High School, Quaker School of Aeronautics, and Indiana State University. Larry joined the United States Army serving with the 1st Cavalry in Korea. Larry worked for over 50 years in aviation as a mechanic and inspector specializing in helicopters. He owned and operated Grocott Aviation Enterprises.
Larry owned Canine Chalet and Academy, where he trained, bred, and showed dogs for over 35 years. Along with Dr. Sally Wixon and Becky Drumheller of Child Life, Larry and his dog, Piper, established the Tender Paws Program at Geisinger Children’s Hospital in Danville.
Larry is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Serabian, whom he married April 19, 1968; two children: Deborah L. Werntz, Karl J. Grocott; two grandchildren: Nathanael A. (Molly) Werntz, Kristel R. Werntz; two great-grandchildren: Phoenix N. and Hannah E. Werntz; and nephew, Richard Grocott. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Richard Grocott, and sister, Judith Marshbanks.
Services will be Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Mill-Green United Methodist Church (Greenwood), 466 Old Greenwood Road, Millville, with his pastor, Pastor Robert Strozyk, officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.
