Luanne Kay (Eyerly) Brooking passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the age of 87 after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's. Luanne was born December 16, 1938, in Bloomsburg, PA, the loving daughter of M. Ruth and W. Ray Eyerly. She graduated from Bloomsburg High School in Bloomsburg, PA in 1956. She worked in the A. W. Duy Tax office during High School then in IBM at Magee Carpet Company until her marriage in 1964 to Carl Brooking, also of Bloomsburg. Upon their marriage, they moved to Massena, NY (The hunting and fishing were good there, and there was a job too!) where Carl taught high school business math for 30 years. After Carl's retirement they bought a motor home and traveled throughout the West, spending winters in Texas until Carl passed away in 1998. At one time, Luanne helped teach singing to high-school-age Special Education children and was Executive Director of the Meals on Wheels program at its beginning in Massena. After Carl's death, she was secretary at St. John's Episcopal Church in Massena. Luanne's world was her children and family. She loved working in her flower garden, and keeping her feathered friends well fed at the bird feeder outside her window, right thru her very last days.
Surviving Luanne are her three loving children, John William Brooking, IV and wife Mary of Westbrook, ME, Cynthia Anne Siddon, and husband Scott of Clinton, NY, and Thomas Eugene Brooking of Syracuse, NY. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Michael Brooking, Syracuse, NY; Milo and James Brooking, Westbrook, ME; Mackenzie and Cooper Siddon of Clinton, NY. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Amber Spatafore and Max Neyhart of Syracuse, NY. A great-grandchild Remington Brooking of Syracuse, NY, always brought a huge smile to Luanne's face.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at Creveling Cemetery, Almedia, PA. Family and friends may send online condolences to bunnellfuneralhome.com. The Bunnell Funeral Home Inc. is handling local arrangements.
