Madalyn (Hilner) Phares

Madalyn Hilner Phares, 96, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27th, with family by her side.  The daughter of Frederick and Laura Smith Hilner, Madalyn was born November 6th, 1927.  She graduated from Millville High School in 1945 before going to work making lightbulbs for Sylvania with her closest friend, Doris.  She married her husband Joe on May 15th, 1948.

Madalyn enjoyed travel, puzzles, Jeopardy and card parties with friends.  She worked in retail throughout her life from Baker’s Economy Locker to Bonton but she would tell you her greatest accomplishments were being a farmer’s wife, a mother to son’s Gene (Chris) and Roger, daughter’s Robyn (Jon) and Ginger (Jerry), a grandmother to Steve (Patricia), Breanne (Joe), Chad (Laura), Jeston (Melinda), Colton and Baby Boy Hopper, as well as a great grandmother to Nick, Arabelle, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Savannah, Addison and Jack.

Madalyn was a life long supporter of the Millville Fire Company.  If she was with us today, she’d be making caramel corn this week.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Millville Community Fire Company, PO Box 80, Millville, PA, 17846 in memory of Madalyn and Joe’s commitment and dedication to their community. 

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
