Mae Harvey Sweeney age 96, went to be with her Lord, Aug. 17, 2022. Mae had been in declining health for the past several years and has been a guest of the Gardens at Millville. She was born April 19, 1926, in Orange Township, and lived her entire life there. She was the daughter of the late Boyd R. and Lena P. (Evans) Harvey.
In the early years, Mae was employed by several sewing factories in the area. She also made crafts and baked goods that she and her husband sold at local flea markets and restaurants. But her favorite and most fulfilling occupation was cleaning the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Route 254 near Millville, for nearly 30 years, stopping only when her health made it necessary. Mae’s faith and the church was very important to her and she was a longtime member.
Mae is survived by sisters: Helen Boudman of Orangeville, Evelyn Carr of Bloomsburg; sister-in-law, Ruth Elaine Harvey, of Millville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband of 27 years, Harold (Art) Sweeney, April 1, 2021; two brothers: Lester and Amos Harvey; and sister, Irene Robbins.
At Mae’s request, there will be graveside services Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. at McHenry Cemetery, Bowmans Mill Road, Orange Township, with the Rev. Micah Felber officiating.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Gardens at Millville and Commonwealth Hospice for the wonderful care Mae received. And a special thank you to the Rev. Micah Felber for the prayers offered and the support given to Mae thru her troubling times.
