Marjorie (Marj) Helen (Read) Savidge

Marjorie (Marj) Helen Read Nuckles Savidge, 77, of Millville, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at her residence. She was born December 30, 1946 in Fairfield, Illinois, daughter of the late Frank R. and Nellie (Young) Read.

After graduating from Fairfield High School, Marj received her bachelor's degree from Oakland City College (Indiana). She attended the University of Louisville (Kentucky) where she received her master's in Religious Studies and a master's in Social Work through the esteemed Kent School of Social Work.  It was at university that she met and married her first husband, Arnold H. Nuckles, Jr. They had one biological child, Heather Nuckles (now Gordon). Marj married her second husband, Edward L. Savidge, on February 13, 1999 and accepted into her heart her ten step-children.

Marj will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and acceptance of people from all walks of life.  Her caring nature served her well in teaching elementary remedial reading and after that, in her field of social work. She put others first and was always able to understand different perspectives. After retiring from Mental Health in Williamsport, Marj enjoyed being a grandmother and caring for her grandchildren. She was the most wonderful mother and grandmother, giving of herself tirelessly. Marj loved reading, listening to NPR, crafting and cooking the most delicious foods. She will be missed immensely by those who were blessed to know and love her.  

Marj is survived by her daughter, Heather Gordon, and husband Fred Gordon, of North Carolina; brother, Howard Read, and wife Kathy, of Kentucky; and sister-in-law, Barbara Read of Kentucky. She is also survived by her step-children and her beloved grandchildren. Marj was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Edward L. Savidge, and her brother, Hershel Read.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market St., Bloomsburg. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to their charity of choice.
