Mary E. (Houseknecht) Broadt

Mary E. Broadt, 76, of Bloomsburg, passed away at Geisinger Medical Center, on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. She was surrounded by family members as she was welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord. She was born on August 21, 1934 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Robert Quentin and Mildred (Manbeck) Houseknecht. She attended Bloomsburg Schools. She is a member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. Her faith was very strong and that in itself sustained her along her life's journey especially towards the end when her heart grew weary. She enjoyed a good "old fashion" conversation, usually laughter was involved. She always tried to get the last word in. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson J. "Bill" Broadt Sr. who passed away December 27, 2006 and a granddaughter Jamie Shreck McNeill who passed away February 11, 2004. She is survived by her son Wilson J. Broadt Jr. of Millville, two daughters Bonnie Lee Broadt and Susan Shreck both of Berwick, two grandsons Bryan Shreck of Berwick and Chad Broadt of Minnesota; two great grandsons: Deondre and Jordan McNeill of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by a brother Gerald Houseknecht of Hummelstown and several nephews. Services will be Monday at 11:00 am at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St. Bloomsburg with her pastor Joel Zeiders officiating. Burial will be at Elan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rodger T. Bunnell Funeral Home, 435 Market St., Bloomsburg, Pa 17815. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, Pa 17815.
