Mary (Moyer) Stewart

Mary Moyer Stewart, 69, of Fairfax, VA died at her home, surrounded by family, Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024.

Born on November 28, 1954, in Reading, PA to the late Franklin Jacob Moyer and Lucille Quick Moyer, Mary is survived by two brothers, Franklin Lee Moyer, Orland, ME and David Allen Moyer, Raleigh, NC.  Mary is also survived by two sons, Jason Stewart, Fairfax, VA and Justin Stewart, Pittsburgh, PA.

Mary grew up in Central Pennsylvania, was educated in the Central Columbia School District (Bloomsburg, PA Area) and graduated in 1972.  Mary earned a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority.  She earned a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Upon graduation from her undergraduate studies, Mary relocated to the Washington, DC Area and began a career in law enforcement.  She changed careers and entered the field of Risk Management at a time when the concepts of Risk Management first emerged.  Mary worked in the public sector at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the City of Alexandria and spent the last 13 years of her career as Risk Manager for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.  She was known internationally for her expertise in all aspects of Risk Management.

Mary was a dedicated mother.  Her personal interests included a variety of sports ranging from tennis and golf to football and travel, especially travel with her two sons, Jason and Justin.  Together they shared an African safari, trips to all 50 of the United States, cruises and a trip to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.  She had a zeal for life and a smile that warmed hearts.  It was a wonderful and glorious life.

A celebration of her life will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, September 9, 2024, Pine Center Church, Pine Center Church Road, Millville, PA 17846.
