Max L. Starr, 81 of Derrs concluded his journey in this life with his family by his side. He was born in Greenwood Township, Columbia County, a son of the late Thomas L. and Mary Bittner Starr. Max attended Benton Area Schools. He lived his entire life in the Millville-Benton Area. He worked for Otto Ford Farms, he also did commercial farming and trucking for local canneries. He also owned and operated school buses for the Millville Area School District for several years. Max provided septic tank services and founded Starr Portable Toilets in 1991. He belonged to the Democratic Committee for many years. He was a member of the Millville Fire Company for over forty years. He also belonged to the North Montour Sportsman's Club and the National Rifle Association and the Jury Tract Hunting Club. Max was an avid hunter and sportsman. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and his faithful little Yorkie, Jazzy who was his loyal companion. He will be missed by his friend Bob Rigney, who he met during his stay at Millville Health Care. He was preceded in death by two brothers Merle and Glenn Starr. Max is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Martha Shultz Starr and two sons Roger Starr and his wife Kelle of Orangeville, Greg Starr and his wife Donna of Millville and a daughter Susan Balmoos of Millville, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a step-sister Marilyn Bittner and her husband Tom Rucker of Prattville, Alabama, and two sister-in laws Catherine Starr of Benton and Yvonne Starr of San Antonio, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday at 10:00 am at Bunnell Funeral Home, Inc. 179 E. Main St. Millville, with Pastor Richard Leonard and Pastor Allen Acor officiating. Burial will be at Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
