Mildred Albertson Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Ione Albertson, 91, of Millville passed away on February 20, 2020 at the Geisinger Medical Center
She was born in the family farmhouse on July 4, 1928, a daughter of the late Melvin and Mary (Wintersteen) Shultz. Her father hooked up the horse and buggy and went to get Aunt Lydia to assist with the birth. After she was born, her mother named her after Aunt Lydia's two daughters, Mildred and Ione.
She loved life on the dairy farm and loved her parents. According to her, she "worked like a man" by her father's side as a youth and well into adulthood in the fields and in the barn. She always said she never learned how to cook before getting married because she was always working outside with the crops and the animals and loved it all. Life was not always easy on the farm. In her early years, there was no plumbing, electricity, telephone or automobile and all clothing was made by hand. However, according to Millie, what they did have was plenty of food and love for one another.
Millie graduated from Millville High School in 1946 where she was a member of the women's basketball team. Shortly after graduation, she spent the summer living and working at the Eagles Mere Inn. She met the love of her life, Art Albertson, when he returned from World War II. They were married in Kulpmont on October 3, 1946.
Her husband of 73 years, Arthur David Albertson, passed away on December 8, 2019. She is survived by her son Mark R. Albertson and wife, Andrea, of Millville, granddaughter, Shannon Eileen Albertson of Atlanta, Georgia, and grandson, Macon Arthur Albertson and wife Debbie of Mount Holly, North Carolina and their children and grandchildren. Millie was one of six children. She held her sisters and brothers dear to her heart. She is survived by one brother, Paul Shultz of Jerseytown, Pennsylvania. Katherine, Harold, Thelma and Lois predeceased her.
Millie enjoyed small town life and the many friends she made over the years in Millville that she loved as she would a family member. She truly loved her mother-in-law, Lillian Albertson, speaking of her often with love and fondness. She was her second mother. She was noted for remembering birthdays and anniversaries of her many friends and relatives. She loved dancing in her youth and playing cards with her neighbors. Millie treated everyone she met with an unfailing kindness and generosity. Throughout her life, Millie's family and friends enjoyed listening to her share vivid stories of her life experiences that we will always cherish.
She thanked God daily for her blessings. She told Art she loved him many times a day. She kept a good home: spotless, healthy delicious meals, and took care of the home books while Art worked long hours at his service station. She wrote to her son, Mark, several times a week when he left home to go off on his own, never failing. She loved knitting, making hundreds of dish towels that were gifted to family and friends. She never had a driver's license, but made her way through life anyway. Her grandchildren lived in North Carolina so she took the Greyhound bus to visit them when Art could not take off work. And she always sent them a Little Golden Book.
Of all her accomplishments, the greatest was being a full-time wife, mother and grandmother. No value can be placed on the love, devotion, support, care, nurturing and consistency she showed her family. She literally dedicated her life to them. Sometimes a person's greatest impact comes in the form of small, seemingly unimportant details, but that is often what motherhood is made of. She was proud of her family and loved them to the end.
We were blessed to have had you for all these years, Grammy, and will surely miss you, "The General."
