Richard "Dick" M Girton

Richard “Dick” M. Girton, 87, of Millville passed away on Sunday April 9, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born March 3, 1936, in Mahoning Township, a son of the late Melvin L. and Martha (Bitler) Girton.

He graduated from Bloomsburg High School and worked at Magee Carpet for over 41 years. Dick was a lifetime member of the Millville Fire Co. and Millville Fire Police. He enjoyed going to the Millville Carnival, sitting on his porch and watching cars go by. He liked hunting with his kids, and making and supplying his friends and neighbors with horse radish.

On Sunday’s you could find Dick greeting people at the front door of the Millville Christian Church Disciples of Christ and ringing the bell. If you needed to know something, go to the Millville Alley Cat and sit at the “Table of Knowledge” where Dick always was.

Dick is survived by his wife the former Arla Taylor, whom he married May 5, 1955, four children; Richard “Tuffy” Girton wife Patricia of Bradford Rhode Island, Ronnie Girton wife Laurie of Millville, Diana Hess husband Richard of Bloomsburg, Philip Girton wife Crystal of Danville, three grandchildren; Kasey Alves, Sunny Girton, Isebelle Girton, four brothers; Kenneth Girton wife Charlotte, James Girton, Bill Girton wife Pat, Gary Girton, sister Mary Ann Dawson husband Jeff, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents as well three infant children; Angela, David, Raymond “Ricky” Girton, three sisters; Frances J. Steiner, Patricia Benjamin, Darlene Kessler, and brother Pete Girton.

Services will be Wednesday April 12, 2023 at 11:00 am at Millville Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 230 E. Main St., Millville with his pastor, Pastor Mark Messner officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
