Roland Sharrow Obituary

Roland Lee Sharrow, 69, of Danville passed away unexpectedly on Veteran's Day, November 11 at home. He was born at Bloomsburg Hospital on November 16, 1949, a son of the late Robert Lee and Doris (Greenly) Sharrow. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Kay Sharrow.
On October 10, 1970, Roland married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Leigh Blew; and had just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by his son Ryan Sharrow, wife Michele Bafile-Sharrow, grandsons Riley, Ryder, and Dylan Sharrow of Lightstreet, brother Richard and wife Donna Sharrow of Millville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roland was so proud of his son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons. He loved spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was a member of the Millville Christian Church, the American Legion, and the National Rifle Association.
Roland graduated in 1967 from Millville High School and served in the United States Coast Guard at Sandy Hook, Ft. Hancock, NJ from 1967 to 1971. He was a storekeeper and participated in many search and rescue missions in New York harbor and surrounding waterways. He was a proud veteran and loved serving his country.
After discharge, he graduated first in class from Ryder Truck Driving School in Millville, NJ and drove for Lawton Trucking for several years. He then trained as an electrician and worked for Girton Manufacturing, Millville, as a service technician, traveling to many states, Scotland, and Puerto Rico. He also worked for Bloom Penn Contractors as a job superintendent. He then had his own contracting business for many years, with his son, specializing in steel building construction.
He retired in 2011 and worked his dream retirement job delivering and picking up small aircraft engines in a 10-state area for Columbia Aircraft of Bloomsburg. Roland loved boating, traveling, doing cross-stitch and restoring cars. He enjoyed often going to breakfast with a group of his high school buddies.
In 2016, he and wife Kathy took off and drove to Seattle, got on a cruise ship to Alaska and spent a month traveling this great country. He was proud to say he had worked in or visited 49 out of the 50 states and had driven interstate 80 from Atlantic to the Pacific.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
