Shirley Cicero, 77, of Millville, Pennsylvania went to reside with her Savior on November 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Cicero, just 2 months prior. They were married for 57 years.
Shirley was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1944 to Charles W. and Helen (Perrine) Hamilton. She resided with her parents and older brother Charles W. Hamilton, Jr. (deceased) in Titusville, New Jersey. She graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 1962. She then attended Somerset Hospital School of Nursing attaining her diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1964 she married Donald E. Cicero and they raised 3 children; Donald A. (Jewel) Cicero of Dushore, PA, Trish Ruland of Glens Falls, NY, and Michael Cicero of Riverside, PA. 1n 1978 the family moved to Millville, PA where they enjoyed the rural, picturesque setting for 43 years. Shirley was particularly fond of being a nurse, and in the 1980's decided to further her nursing education. She graduated in 1987 from Bloomsburg University, earning the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society for Nursing upon graduation. Shirley was employed at Geisinger Medical Center as a Certified Mental Health Registered Nurse until her retirement.
Shirley was a devoted mother, and was very proud of her homemaking skills. She was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed raising, canning and freezing her family's food. She was an exemplary marksman, and was an Endowment member of the National Rifle Association. Shirley developed an interest in amateur radio and worked diligently to successfully pass the testing requirements to achieve the ARRL Extra Class station and operator license, where she carried the call sign KB3TAX. She was quite active in the Columbia Montour Amateur Radio Club where she served as the 2 meter Emergency Net Manager for many years. Shirley was a very familiar voice to amateur radio operators every Tuesday evening at 7pm.
Shirley was always a proud and supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and she loved the Lord and her family dearly. She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren; Cody Heckman of Fort Ann, NY, Jenna Smith of Chestertown, NY, and Sarah, Charlie and Emily Cicero of Chambersburg, PA; also one great granddaughter, Ellie May Smith of Chestertown, NY. Shirley is also survived by her faithful little buddy Jasper, who now resides with her grandson in Fort Ann, NY.
Services will be held jointly for Shirley and her husband Don on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Bunnell Funeral Home Inc., 179 E. Main St., Millville, PA with Mike Woolcock officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Wesley Cemetery, Pine Township, PA. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
