Suzanne (Sue) C. Avery, age 88, of Ponte Vedra, FL, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at Baptist Medical Center South, Jacksonville FL. She was born August 25, 1934, in Bloomsburg, PA, daughter of the late Maynard J. and Bess (Conner) Pennington.
Sue graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1952. She worked in the cafeteria at Millville High School and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse working at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, crocheting, crafting, puzzles, playing cards and dominoes She also loved lobster, pina coladas, driving fast and taking care of her “fur” babies.
Sue was a member of the Victory Church in Lakeland, FL and a volunteer for the Prayer Shawl Program at St John Paul II catholic church, crocheting shawls for those in need of God’s presence, strength and blessings.
Sue is survived by 3 children: Trina Avery, (Teri) of Naples FL; Laura Avery Van Ohlen (Andy) of Ponte Vedra, FL; and Mark Avery, (Laura) of Sugarland, TX.; three siblings: Larry Pennington, (Carol), Harry Pennington, and Maynard Pennington, Jr., (Mary); Sister-in-law Doris Long; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband James M. Avery, son Emmitt W. Avery, parents Maynard and Bess Pennington; one brother: James Pennington; and sisters, Sally Hill and Trina Pennington.
Services will be Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Bunnell Funeral Home Inc., 179 E. Main St., Millville Pa with Mike Woolcock officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Summit Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
