On March 7, 2023, Viola Mae Vitanza, age 88, was called home to Heaven. She passed away peacefully in her Northumberland PA home, where she lived with her niece Esther M. Michael and Robin Deeter. She succumbed to complications from COPD. She was born on December 17, 1934 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late James and Hazel (Robison) Rothwell.
Viola (Vi) was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Some of Viola’s favorite pastimes included reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and coloring on her tablet. Her favorite TV show was Agatha Christie’s Hercules Poirot.
Viola was an incredible person, who touched many people during her long, full life. Her quick wit, kind heart, and wisdom drew people to her, and she made friends wherever she went. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents as well as first husband, Thomas W. Cameron, second husband Joseph Vitanza, brothers, James Rothwell, Jr, Edward Rothwell, and sisters Jody Pomposini and Alretta Michael; and son Robert Cameron.
Viola is survived by sons Thomas Cameron, Jr. wife Darla of Pittsburgh, PA, Ronald Cameron and his wife Lisa of Taylor, MI; her grandsons Thomas Cameron III of New York, NY, Tyler Cameron of Pittsburgh, PA, Bryce Cameron of Enterprise, MS, and R.J. Cameron of Taylor MI; granddaughters Cheyenne Porter of Pittsburgh, PA, Nicole Santana, of Naples, FL, Gaelle Moser of Brooklyn, NY, Tiffany Cameron of Taylor, MI, and Susan Budzinski of Pittsburgh, PA; her four great-grandchildren, Julian Santana, Tristen Santana, Felix Porter, and Sebastian Budzinski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
