William Shaffer Obituary

William M. Shaffer, 88, of Bloomsburg, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1921 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Lloyd and Lillian Stauffer Shaffer. He graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1941. After high school he joined the Army Air Force during WWII. He is a member of the Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273. He is a member of St. Mathews Lutheran Church, where he's been a member for over fifty years and served on the church council and was an usher. He was a Ham Radio Operator for many years. William enjoyed playing golf and Penn State football games and traveling in his motorhome; he really enjoyed spending time with family and having family gatherings. He was preceded in death by two brothers Lloyd and Charles Shaffer and three sisters Nora Knouse, Maree Rittenhouse and Hazel Dawalt. He is survived by his wife the former Nola Irene Doty with whom he married December 25, 1942 and three sons Larry Shaffer and his wife Donna of Marathon, FL, Stephen Shaffer and his wife Anne of Bloomsburg and James Shaffer and his wife Deborah of Mifflinville and ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Memorial services will be Friday at 11:00 am at St. Mathews Lutheran Church 123 N. Market St. Bloomsburg with his Pastor Joel Zeider officiating. Burial will be at Elan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in Williams's memory to St. Mathews Lutheran Church 123 N. Market St. Bloomsburg, Pa 17815. Rodger T. Bunnell Funeral Home 435 Market St. Bloomsburg is handling the arrangements.
